Emerad Speedster is back with the first books of the new DC
In celebration of the highly anticipated first week of the DC New 52 this week will be an all DC week (sorry true believers) this week there were only 5 books that stood out and boy did they stood out.
5th place Green Arrow #1 We have seen Oliver Queen go through a lot of changes, we have followed him from Prometheus all the way to his blackest night and brightest day, but this time around things seem to have taken yet another twist. The relaunch brought the emerald archer back to his heroic roots, and instead of being a Robin Hood like persona he’s gotten more animated and entertaining. Writer J.T Krul is still overseeing the project so as long as he’s around we should be seeing some of the hunter that we’ve grown to know and love. To be honest, I’m a little disappointed at J.T's number one issue. He’s given us some of the greatest Green Arrow books that have ever been written, he single handedly took Ollie to a whole other level never reached before, but now it feels like he flushed that down the toilet and started pandering to the populous instead of just writing a good story for the sake of being innovative. Personally I’m still going to pick up the second issue regardless, I’m just a little worried that Krul won’t do the thing that brought him to the dance in the first place. All we can do is wait and hope he starts pushing the envelope with every issue. 4th place Stormwatch #1 I gave this book the old college try and it, surprised me a little. Even though the Wildstorm universe is a well-established universe it still feels like there is more than meets the eye when it comes to its characters especially since they’re being incorporated in the DCU. It’s a little hard to tell who the bad guys and good guys truly are when it comes to the characters. It was an enjoyable read, and I think as we progress throughout the series, I have a feeling that we will get to know more about Apollo and the Midnighter as well as the rest of the team. 3rd Place Justice League International #1 This book was as entertaining as it was action packed. I understand that most books, especially team books are not supposed to start fast, but this book just felt sluggish. Maybe it was me, call me crazy but as much as of a fan of the JLI and its writer Dan Jurgens as I am I felt that Jurgens could have done ALOT more with the book, but hey it’s the first issue so there should be more to come. Besides sometimes it is best to start off on a good level that way there’s nowhere to go but up, let’s just hope that is what Jurgens had intended when writing this book. 2nd Place Action Comics # 1 You heard right, THE legendary and highly acclaimed first issue of ACTION COMICS made 2nd place, and that’s pretty hard to do specially since its writer Grant Morrison writes nothing but hits.Don’t get me wrong the book was fantastic, it made me like Superman, especially since I’m not a fan of the man of steel, and as action packed and enjoyable as it was (no pun intended) there was something that just happened to beat it by a hair. Either way if it wasn’t for the next book in our countdown, Action comics #1 would have been the best book hands down. 1st place Detective comics # 1 Well I’ll be damned, I never thought that id see the day where Detective, DC's second best book would out do the company’s best and first book [yes i did]. This book was phenomenal it had it all, action, drama, and your classic Batman and Joker story. This first issue could not have been written any better, not even if you put the 4 horsemen from the 52 event [again, no pun intended] together in one room just to write this issue. I personally regret not getting my hands on the paper copy, so I had to settle for the digital download. And like everyone else, I’m crossing my fingers for a second printing Overall Kudos to writer Tony S. Daniel. For giving the public some real hope that this ''New 52'' idea might not tank. These were the books that shriveled my weenis for the week of September 6th 2011 I am well aware that I did not get the chance to review Flashpoint 5 and Justice League 1, but due to hectic deadlines and trying to get the reviews out on time those two books will have a special spotlight in an upcoming review so keep look out for that. Well that’s all for the week of Sept. 6 [sorry for the delay] this has been the emerald speedster and until next time...DEUCES!! |
