Early Bird Special

Emerald's back with a whole new bag of presents and changes but lets let him tell you about them inside.

Hello and welcome to a special holiday edition of the new angle we like to call the “Early Bird Special”. It's just like the past reviews but with twice the controversy and a day ahead from all the top sites. Just like the other reviews there are the top six books in order from least to BEAST!

6th place-Daredevil # 7

This special holiday edition was nothing but filler, but it was good filler after all the nonsense that happened to Matt Murdock. This issue was the downtime he desperately needed or so he thought.

There are a few good moments in the book where writer Mark Waid throws in a few good one liners to make the crowd chuckle, but in the end there is one thing the public can agree on and it is the undeniable fact that Daredevil and a snow storm don't mix… Wanna know how I came to that conclusion? You better read it and find out, right?

5th place-Incredible Hulk #3

Yes ladies and germs Silvestri's Hulk is actually on the countdown, and I call it Silvestri's Hulk because his art is the ONLY reason why people are even bothering with this book because we sure as hell couldn’t care less what Jason Aaron writes now a days. This issue solidifies the idea of Hulk being his own person of having his own identity and being the Dr. Jeckil to Banners Mr. Hyde in a way, and it is true since the start of the series Banner has been nothing but a mad man… A gamma induced tumor having mad man that wants nothing but to be the strongest there is once more, and now that he got the Hulks undivided attention it might happen.

4th place-Green Lantern Corps # 4

This book was not meant to be in the countdown, but Peter J Tomassi threw in a special treat that I just couldn't pass up. As far as the story goes it’s just another Tomassi book, which means that it's just there. It is an enjoyable read and nothing more. Though on this issue Guy Gardner finds out from a special source that the people gunning for corps are and their purpose, and John Stewart will begin to experience what it’s like to be a Prisoner Of War.

3th place- Justice League #4

You heard right! The critically acclaimed flagship book from DC's New52 took the bronze in our countdown. Don't get me wrong, the only reason I couldn't review the past issues was because of personal issues and creative differences at the time, now this would have been THE book this week if it weren’t for something even more special in store. As we have seen from the past few issues writer Geoff Johns seems to have picked up a habit of giving us the same formula sort of a recipe on how to write the Justice League in 2011:

-Introduce team.

-Use a space for a Vic Stone origin back-story.

-Have the newest member of the team argue and showcase his or her power.

-Add witty douchebag one liner from Hal Jordan.

-Plug in something about Superman or Batman.

-Give more info on the villain behind what seems to be Armageddon.

-A teaspoon of sugar.

-Fancy Jim Lee art.

And presto! You have a Justice League book. Let's just hope that the next issue gives the audience more of a curve ball, or at least some cheese for our whine.

2nd place-Batman #4

DC's very own dynamic duo of artist Greg Capullo and writer Scott Snyder bring us what might potentially be one of the best Batman stories ever told, and the only reason why is because in this book Batman is dealing with a enemy that might have caused him to put on the cowl. If so, this may potentially change the Dark Knight to his very core, and I can assure you one thing… After this arc is over you will NEVER see Batman the same way EVER again!

1st Place-Batman Incorporated Leviathan Strikes One-Shot 80 page spectacular

Don't let the long title fool you, because this book is one for the ages and it is worth the read. Grant Morrison pulls out all the stops and gives the readers; especially the Bat-fans something to hold them over until 2012 when he will pick up the Batman Inc. project once more. This oversized SPECTACULAR lives up to the namesake and shows us that all it takes to make a timeless classic is a little imagination and whole lot of acid. But in all seriousness; I urge anyone and everyone who reads this to go and pick up this book, and you WON'T regret it! Even talking about and/or hinting the true identity of the true leader of leviathan can ruin the whole magic of this masterpiece from DC's very own golden goose. This book is the perfect Christmas gift and/or stocking stuffer.

Spite some controversial picks on the countdown these were the books that jingled my bells for the week of December 21, 2011.
