Joyful Noise Review

My whole life I have searched for the answer to 1 question, is the noise joyful? I found out this week you can too by reading the rest inside

You know, I would love to spend 3 or 4 hours discussing Joyful Noise, I would love to host a weekly podcast dissecting the ins and outs of this film. I would love to get the blu-ray and watch 80 hours of behind the scenes about it. But, I am not going to I will simply enjoy this film for what it is nice fluff. Nothing wrong with fluff especially nice fluff. The film really is enjoyable, its about 15 minutes too long but its good. It’s a little uneven a little mixed with its messages but its enjoyable, and its family friendly.

Dolly Parton plays G.G. Sparrow, a rich woman who is the main supporter of a church. I don’t remember the name of the church.  Queen Latifah plays Vi Rose Hill, an angry mother who don’t take shit from no one, sounds familiar. G.G’s husband Bernard, played by the mighty Kris Kristofferson is the instructor of the choir which both G.G. and Vi sing in, he dies in the first 8 seconds of the movie. That made me wonder why cast Kristofferson? Vi is picked to be choir leader instead of G.G. the trailers make it seem like this is a big plot point and G.G. wants to be choir leader well its not. G.G really didn’t care to much. The big problem between G.G. and Vi is Vi doesn't like G.G. because she has big breasts and money, she says so in the movie. That’s the problem the conflict is G.Gs wild grandson Randy, played by Jeremy Jordan who used to be a Nazi, or something else extremely bad because not even the reverend wants to give him a 2nd chance.  Randy falls for Vi’s daughter Olivia played by Keke Palmer, Olivia likes Randy which makes Vi very angry. Is the movie starting to feel bloated yet? If not I forgot to mention the 4 subplots that go nowhere, the main plot about the choir trying to win nationals and all the Asian jokes.

I would like to mention that the movie has a lot of Dolly Parton plastic surgery jokes, I get she has had a lot of surgery. But she is the sexiest woman in this cast, sorry Keke but Dolly is hot at least when she is standing still when she moves she kinda looks like a zombie, a sexy zombie though. Queen Latifah plays her part well but she is so angry, even when she should be happy she is angry. Jeremy Jordan’s Randy hooks up with Keke Palmer’s Olivia but I suspect in real life he would be more happy with Olivia’s brother Walter played by  Dexter Darden.

In closing if you’re still confused about whether or not to see Joyful Noise this weekend ask yourself this one question. Would you like to see a movie called Tyler Perry and Joel Osteen’s Joyful Noise. If it sounds appealing then strap in and enjoy.

P.S,after posting I got an email asking if I liked the music and that the music is the main selling point. Fair enough during the movie I enjoyed the music, but after it was over I could not remember a single song. I know I recognized all the songs during the movie but afterwards I did not remember what they were. So I don’t know if that speaks more to me than it does to the movie.
