| Chris is in love with I Love You Man |

How could a movie produced by the guy who wrote "Celtic Pride" go wrong (Judd Apatow)? Better yet how could a movie directed by the guy who wrote "Meet The Parents" go wrong? Well it’s my job to tell you.
It did not. "I Love You Man" is a movie that takes some real balls to make, and I mean balls. Every movie acts like meeting someone is so natural, like your friends are there forever, well there not, friends come and go. And sometimes you never even get one. Sad but true. I am sure all of us know someone who really doesn’t have any friends I am sure at some point in life that person was you and me. "I Love You Man" isn’t the story of a man trying to find a friend like the trailer makes it seem. Of course that is part of the movie but a small part. No, "I Love You Man" is the story of how hard and how great a best friend is. But not just any best friend, a man's best friend. You see this movie has the balls to say it’s harder for men to have a friend than it is for women. You see women keep their friends for years really for life but men don't. Why? Because of women, whether they know it or not women are the reason every friendship between 2 men has failed. I am not saying women are evil or do it on purpose and neither does this movie, it’s just women are better at balancing their lives than men. You see a man gets married and for the most part the man will try to keep his friends. It’s just he tries to keep the wife harder and the friendships start to falter, not die just falter, and the movie shows this perfectly. It’s no one's fault it’s just tough for guys to balance. And that is something that takes balls to say in this day and age that men struggle. It’s not all farts and beer for men, men have to work on their friendships too.
Peter Klaven played to perfection by Paul Rudd is a man who is about to get married, he over hears his fiancée talking about him. He then decides he needs a friend, of course this is what the trailers show, but it’s what they don’t show that makes this movie work. It’s pretty clear that everyone involved in this film understands best friends are hard to find and to keep. Jason Segal plays that to perfection as Sydney, Peter’s new best friend. You see Peter instantly falls in "man love" with Sydney but it’s not easy to be engaged and to be best friends with Sydney. It’s never easy to balance your life, something or someone will always get the short end of the stick. The thing is Peter is so new to the friend thing that he doesn't know that. That is what makes this movie click. You will believe this man has never had a friend. This movie works in so many ways from Lou Ferrigno’s small but effective role as himself, to Jon Favreau playing the biggest dick he has ever played. This movie fires on all cylinders
I won’t go into how funny this movie is because you know it’s funny all these guy’s movies are funny. I mean there weakest links are Drillbit Taylor and Superbad that’s pretty damn good for weakest links. I won’t go into what doesn’t work because it all pretty much works. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t the greatest movie ever, hell it’s not the greatest this year. I am just saying it works on all levels that it tries.
I also want to say I saw this film at the nastiest, ugliest theater in town and still loved it. That has got to count for something.
