Observe and Report review
Written by Chris Evans

I am happy to have observed and be able to report on observe and report

You know the last 10 or so years have been really devoid of any great comedies and by great, I mean F***ING FUNNY. You see there have been great films that were funny in the last 10 years, just not F***ing funny, by f***ing funny I mean films like Steve Martin’s,"The Jerk" or "Dumb and Dumber". I mean films that don’t stop pounding away at your funny bone, a film that makes you laugh no matter what mood you’re in, a film that has you laughing all day and  the next. Well I am proud and happy to say "Observe and Report" is that film, but before I tell you why let’s take a look at what some forum goers picked as their 10 best comedies of the past 10 years.

Hannibal 21 said

1.Rushmore - 10/10
2. The Royal Tenenbaums - 9/10
3. Pleasantville - 9/10
4. Ghost World - 9/10
5. Chasing Amy - 9/10
6. Sideways - 8.5/10
7. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - 8.5/10
8. High Fidelity - 8.5/10
9. The 40-Year-Old Virgin - 8.5/10
10. Adaptation - 8.5/10

Ummmm, "Adaptation". Really? What does that say about the last 10 years when that film makes a top ten list of comedies? "Sideways", wtf really? That film was not funny, maybe at best funny moments. Really the same could be said for that whole list, films with funny moments.

How about this guy, Le Big Mac;

      1. Borat: Cultural Learning’s of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
2. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
3. Analyze This (1999)
4. The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
5. Hot Fuzz (2007)
6. Austin Powers in Goldmember (2003)
7. The Big Lebowksi (1998)
8. Shaun of the Dead (2005)
9. Meet the Parents (2000)
10. Wedding Crashers (2005

Now this guy is at least trying to give real comedies but, "Goldmember" and "Analyze This" yuk. "Borat" is as close to a f***ing funny movie we've seen in the last 10 years till now, close but no cigar.

Get a load of this dudes top 10. I am going to leave him anonymous;

1.) High Fidelity -10/10

2.) Chasing Amy -10/10

3.) Rushmore -10/10

4.) Almost Famous -10/10

5.) Igby Goes Down -9/10

6.) Adaptation -9/10

7.) Being John Malkovich -9/10

8.) The Royal Tenenbaums -9/10

9.) The Big Lebowski -9/10

10.) The Girl Next Door -9/10

Ok Really I have a deep, deep love in my heart for "Big Lebowski" and "Being John Malkovich" and I like pretty much every film on these guys lists. But really, "Girl Next Door" and "Adaptation" again those films were not funny. Look at these guys lists, it speaks volumes for comedy in the last 10 years films have went from trying to make us bust a gut to trying to get us to calmly smile.

Well I am happy to say that Hollywood is once again making comedies not just clever or dry but f***ing funny. From last year’s "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" to last week’s "I Love You Man" comedies have been funnier. "Observe and Report" is the funniest. I know a lot of people who love to bust Seth Rogan’s balls for not being funny. People like to say he got lucky and is Judd Apatow’s bitch, all sorts of crap like that. Well if they can watch this film and still say that then they are a heck of a liar. Seth Rogan has never appeared to be somewhat mentally handicapped in any film I have seen him in but yet in the first minute of this film he appears to be somewhat retarded. 10 minutes in to the film I realized this was on purpose, Rogan has never been fatter not even in his "Freaks and Geeks" days. And it works wonders in his role as Ronnie Barnhardt head of mall security. I put Rogan’s Ronny with Martin’s Jerk or Carrey’s Lloyd perfection. Everything Rogan brings to this character works, the extra weight the odd shaped haircut. It reminds me of Jim Carrey pulling off his cap to give Lloyd a chipped tooth a subtle thing but genius.

Jody Hill who wrote and directed "Observe and Report" has crafted a masterpiece. This film is perfection not one joke falls flat, not one actor misses a beat, not a note is out of place. I really cannot wait to see what he does next. Ray Liotta’s Detective Harrison gets the shit end of this movie’s stick, don’t get me wrong Ray plays the part well it’s just that every single other character is comedy silver or gold. But this film would not work if not for Ray he is the straight man the guy keeping this grounded and not letting it go up in the air like the ending of Blades of Glory. Believe me when I tell you I was scared of that happening a few times while watching this film.

I also have to say Anna Faris is very good, so good I really want to see her more often because of this film, she does wonders with good material. And last but not least Michael Peña he really could of stole this movie if given more screen time I am willing to bet 90 percent of his character came from him you just can’t write the stuff he does in this movie.

Slight spoiler warning stop reading if you do not want to be spoiled

I have to acknowledge a trend these days in film penis, penis seems to be all the range these days from Walk Hard to Forgetting Sarah Marshall even Watchmen got in on the act. But Observe and Report gets the gold metal for most penis this generation, if you don’t count brown bunny

If you wondering why I haven’t told you more about the plot or the characters it’s because this film is so f**king funny I feel it would be a disservice to ruin any part of this movie for you. I also want to say Paul Blart eat your heart out this is what being a mall cop is all about
