The Emerald Speedster reviews this weeks top 6 comics
This week was quite the week in the comic book world, and out of all the books that came out only six stood out. The order go’s from least to BEAST.
Coming in 6th is Uncanny X-men 540
This fear itself tie-in is one to watch as the unstoppable and worthy juggernaut makes his way to good ol San Fran. The book was steady in pace almost as steady as Cains march to the west coast. But what made this book readable was the Emma frost segment, in this issue Emma actually says a certain comment you would never think could come out of her mouth. Cyclops reaction and response expose his shortcomings as a leader and one team member might do the unthinkable in order to stop the unstoppable. This book is going places and it's one to watch.
5th is Fear Itself Uncanny X-Force 1 (of 3)
Yet another fear itself tie in chilling at the bottom of the barrel but believe yours truly that this book has the makings of a hit, if served properly. DO YOU FEAR THE END OF THE WORLD? That’s the question they ask the readers in order to promote this, but don’t let Logan’s claws, Deadpool’s swords and Psylocke’s psy-blade intimidate you cause even though the world around them is still going down the crapper, they know they have a job to do no matter the cost. With Armageddon just around the corner, Wolverine and team of gun slinging, sword slashing, psi-blasting assassins. Have to put a stop to a new group of purifiers who believe that it is the mutants fault that their world is going to hell. But this time around they’re not just gunning for muties, they’re also gunning for everyone and anyone who they deem "unclean". And with the Purifiers leader feeling the effects of this fearful world, searching for a sign from his god is not as easy as it seems. Sometimes drastic measures must be taken, and what he plans on doing may not be for the weak of heart.
4th Flashpoint Green Lantern Abin Sur 2 (of 3)
Coming from a great start on its first issue, this certain flashpoint tie in does not fall far behind believe it or not this is the first book that actually ties-into another tie in. Now as Green lantern Abin Sur believes that the earth is worth saving his Umpa Lumpas think otherwise and suggest that he carry on his mission before it’s too late and Nekron [yes you heard right] gets a hold of the precious cargo that the earth has hidden within. But despite the Guardians orders and their ultimatum, Abin Sur makes a decision that he may or may not regret. Add the fact Sinestro just found out what the prophecy of the flashpoint is, and now he has a plan to reshape the universe to his image but at what cost? This books conclusion WILL shock you.
3rd Fear Itself 4 (of 7)
The world is in chaos and its only making the serpent stronger, now with the death of a close friend forcing Steve Rogers to pick up the shield once more, and with Thor getting dumped back to earth the big three are finally back and ready to save the day once more. But there’s a twist, they all have their own missions in order to get things done, Thor realizes the GRAVE importance of his family secrets so he knows his next family meeting won't be a pretty one. Cap goes after a certain someone's killer, and Iron Man pays a hefty price in order to get an audience with Thor's father Odin. It all leads to the Serpents arrival and with it, DARK Asgard. This turning point is one to DRINK up to, so BOTTOMS UP!
2nd Flashpoint 3 (of 5)
This book should be number one but surprisingly something truly unexpected beat it. Albert Einstein once described the act of repeating the same action and expecting a different result as insanity, well he has yet to meet Central City's vary own Barry Allen. In the brink of death Barry dares to yet again FORCE the unthinkable in order to re-obtain his speed. Cyborg, Batman and a Special someone decide to find and recruit what could be their one and only hope to end the war only to find out that everything is not what it seems. Overall this book has been non-stop hit after hit from Geoff Johns writing to Andy Kuberts artwork. Storyboarding flows with the story and gives you that cinematic feel for which Johns strives to give with every issue he's ever written. It is a must have for any DC and comic book fan out there.
Last but certainly not least, the gold standard this week.
FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE 2 (of 3)
You heard right, a tie-in was the best book of the week and it deserved it, the stuff that happens in this book is unbelievable. You won't believe who ended up being Oracle or who the Joker really is in the world of flashpoint, if you thought Dr. Thomas Wayne had enough trouble to deal with before you will be amazed this issue. From the first page it's nothing but non-stop twists and turns for the knight of vengeance, this issue alone personifies unpredictability. It leaves you at the edge of your seat, with goose bumps running down your arms and begging for more. THIS is the way a true bat-book No all comic books was meant to be written, read, and experienced. Anyone with a heartbeat NEEDS to get this book whether you know the bat or not you need this gem in your collection, yes it's THAT good. It's reasonable that some of the decisions may have been controversial to say the least, but they made yours truly believe that there's still hope for this industry yet.
This has been the EMERALD SPEEDSTER, and till next time. Deuces! |
