Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 review

Harry Potter fans rejoice, the journey ends soon, very soon

It’s hard for me to talk about Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 without talking about all the other films. You see I was sold on the idea of Potter when a friend told me to think Lord of the Rings but bigger. Well when the first film came out I was underwhelmed to say the least, I remember being really worried about the LOTR. I mean if Harry Potter sucked what chance did LOTR have? A month later I could not believe I had doubted LOTR. Nearly a year later I was ready to give the 2nd Potter a chance. After all LOTR was 3 movies, Potter at that time was supposed to be 7. It had room to develop into its epicness, to slowly build on each film before it. Well it never happened. At least not for me. The magic never captured me, the story never intrigued me. It was just one flat movie after another, I still had hope for the final chapter. I mean why split it into 2 if you’re not going to make something truly epic? Right? No you say, well then why? Ah yes money good point, you win this round. You see what could have been an epic conclusion is turned into 2 really boring slow moving films. I mean, Deathly Hallows part 1 had a LOTR ending part 2 should begin with a bang, instead we get a whimper and by the time the movie builds back up I just did not care. Maybe it had to with the handling of the source material, maybe it had to do with characters who at best were cameos in the first 5 films being super important in the last 3.

I would like to dig a bit deeper here, just 1 example of my problems with the series. When did Harry and Ginny fall in love? I watched the first 7 potter movies last week, and still have no idea when that happened in the first 6 movies Ginny is at best wallpaper. Then in 7 they share a deep love, I mean I am no genius but in 14+ hours of a film series I think showing the main character fall in love is kind of important.  Or at least plant some seeds, hell do anything at least give her some damn lines. But you see they could not do that because no one at the time knew Ginny would marry Harry, don’t you dare try and tell me J. K. Rowling knew. If she knew she would of told someone in charge,” hey you know Ginny is going to marry Harry so you might want to give her a bigger part”.

I do have to be realistic here most people who see these movies, have read every book so they will enjoy Deathly hallows part 2 much more than me. This film was an excellent finish to the series, it’s just I think the series sucks. I think in 2015 we will get Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, a reboot of the harry potter series. And the director of that film will have a great advantage over Chris Columbus he will know what’s important and what’s not.

I also have to say the epilogue was the most unintentionally funny thing I have seen in film all year. Everyone at my screening burst into laughter the moment it began, not 1 character looked natural. How hard is it to age someone 19 years, many movies have done it before and got it right. Everyone here just looks creepy, but let’s be honest you already saw the first 7 so you know you have to see this one too. But me I am looking forward to 2015 and the reboot. It will be epic, or not but, hey 8 more movies couldn’t hurt.
